Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I have Laser Hair Removal if I am on certain medications?
Certain medications can cause photo-sensitivity to the skin and this may affect the skin's reaction to the treatment. These medications are but not limited to oral and topical vitamin A's, antibiotics, and certain anti-depressants. It is best to speak with your medical professional and obtain medical clearance. After obtaining medical clearance, we are able to test patch you with the laser to determine it is safe to commence treatment.
  • What are the side effects from Laser Hair Removal?
Temporary side effects may include: redness, itchy skin, mild follicle swelling, and irritation on treatment areas. All of which are normal post Laser Hair Removal treatment. It is important to follow the correct prep and aftercare to receive maximum results with minimal side effects to the treatment. In rare cases it can cause hypo/hyperpigmentation, bruising or burns. This is why a consultation is important before getting the procedure done.
  • Can I still get Laser Hair Removal if I am pregnant?
Although there is no medical evidence that laser hair removal will cause any harm during pregnancy, we at 40 Esthetics do not offer treatments during this period. However, you may contact us to pause treatments and resume when no longer pregnant.
  • Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
One of the benefits of Laser Hair Removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than a second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a light rubber band snap on the skin. We use an advanced cooling machine in conjunction with our laser device to reduce the heat sensation on the skin and minimize any discomfort.
  • Can I have my treatment when I am menstruating?
Yes - you can still have laser hair removal treatment while on your period. We advise you to wear a tampon or menstrual cup if you would like to have the Brazilian area treated.
  • What is the aftercare for Laser Hair Removal treatments?
For 24 - 48 hours after the treatment, please avoid excessive sweating, working out, hot showers, pools and saunas. This will help minimize the heat sensation felt on the skin and reinfuse all the vitamins and natural oils the skin requires after the treatment. After 5 days, we recommend you to lightly exfoliate the treatment area with scrub to be used 2 times weekly. This will ensure the hair falls out evenly after the treatment. You will need to ensure all treatment areas are not exposed to direct sunlight for 14 days and apply SPF 35+ liberally every day to avoid hyperpigmentation.
